The Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Australia is again promoting Privacy Awareness Week, from 26 August - 1 September 2007. The theme is "Privacy is your business". The week is an opportunity for organisations and agencies covered by the Privacy Act 1998 (Cth) to promote privacy awareness to their staff, customers, and to the wider community.
The Office has a number of free Privacy Awareness Week promotional items available to download or order as well as a list of suggestions of what you can do to promote Privacy Awareness Week. There are also a range of activities planned that will take place during Privacy Awareness Week, view the events schedule for more details.
Privacy Awareness Week 2006
The week is an opportunity for organisations and agencies affected by the Privacy Act 1998 (Cth) to promote privacy awareness to their staff, customers, and to the wider community.
Privacy Awareness Week is a promotional campaign first initiated by Privacy Victoria in 2001. This year, for the first time, Privacy Awareness Week has gone national and will be jointly promoted by our Office, the Victorian and NSW Privacy Commissioners and the Information Commissioner of the Northern Territory.
The theme is "Don't leave privacy to chance".

Monday 28 August
- Signing of the Attorney-General's Department and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner's Memorandum of Understanding.
- Release of Privacy Awareness Week materials
- ‘10 step guides’ on how to protect personal information for individuals, organisations and agencies; and
- ‘Privacy quizzes’ to test your knowledge of the Privacy Act and privacy issues generally for individuals, organisations and agencies.
Tuesday 29 August
Privacy Awareness Week Launch: The Office of the Privacy Commissioner together with Privacy NSW will be launching the week with a function on Tuesday 29 August. The Attorney-General, the Hon Philip Ruddock MP, will be present to release two important documents for the Office; the Privacy Impact Assessment Guide and the Office's Layered Privacy Policy.
Wednesday 30 August
Case notes: Four new case notes illustrating the types of cases resolved by the Office will be released.
Thursday 31 August
Credit determinations: Two credit determinations will come into effect.
Friday 1 September
Privacy Contact Officers Meeting: the Office will host its regular quarterly meeting for Australian and ACT Government agency Privacy Contact Officer's in Canberra.
