Media Release: Hitachi, NAB, Sony & Telstra - Australian Privacy Awards finalists

4 August 2008

The Australian Privacy Commissioner, Karen Curtis, today announced the finalists for the inaugural Australian Privacy Awards 2008.

"From big businesses to government to NGOs, the range of nominations that we've received for the Australian Privacy Awards has been unbelievably impressive," said Ms Curtis.

"I believe it shows that organisations are increasingly recognising the value that good privacy practices play in building customer relationships."

The category winners and the overall Grand Award winner will be announced at a gala dinner to be held in Sydney on 27 August 2008.

The highlight of Privacy Awareness Week, the dinner will also feature the presentation of the Australian Privacy Medal to an individual who has shown an outstanding level of achievement in the privacy field. The keynote speaker will be Senator the Hon John Faulkner, Special Minister of State and Cabinet Secretary.

"We invite you to show your support for privacy innovation and achievement by joining us at the gala presentation," Ms Curtis said.

"It is an event not to be missed!"

The Awards are sponsored by Symantec (Major Sponsor), Microsoft (Major Sponsor), Clayton Utz (Executive Sponsor), and Australian Finance Conference (Sponsor).
