Media Release: Timothy Pilgrim appointed as Acting Federal Privacy Commissioner

Malcolm Crompton today welcomed the appointment by the Government of an Acting Federal Privacy Commissioner pending the appointment of a new Commissioner.
From 20 April, Timothy Pilgrim will commence as Acting Federal Privacy Commissioner. He is currently the Deputy Federal Privacy Commissioner.
Mr Crompton completes his five year term as Federal Privacy Commissioner today. During Mr Crompton's time as Commissioner he oversaw the extension of the federal Privacy Act to the private sector, including all private sector health service providers.
"I want to thank all the people from organisations in all walks of life in Australia who have engaged with my Office to help us find appropriate privacy responses to the challenge of getting privacy right," said Mr Crompton, outgoing Federal Privacy Commissioner.
"Lastly I would like to thank the people within the Office for their hard work and loyalty. I leave an Office of people who are committed to privacy as part of helping to ensure that we have a safe, open society in which we can all lead private lives.
