Media Release: New Privacy Advisory Committee members appointed
18 September 2002
"I welcome the Attorney-General's announcement of the appointment of three new members to the Privacy Advisory Committee (PAC). I look forward very much to working with them", said Federal Privacy Commissioner Malcolm Crompton.
"The PAC provides strategic advice on privacy from a broad range of perspectives. Community, information technology, business, government and consumer views are brought to the table to help my Office meet its objective of promoting an Australian culture that respects privacy" said Mr Crompton.
"New privacy rights for Australians, which came into force 21 December 2001 make this a dynamic time for privacy in Australia." Mr Crompton noted that "My Office is working with consumer, business, community and government representatives to build understanding of and compliance with the Privacy Act. The PAC will play a vital role in that process."
"I'd like to congratulate the members on their appointment to the Committee," Mr Crompton said.
The new members are:
- Dr Kathy Alexander, Associate Professor, Chief Executive Officer, Women's and Children's Health
- Mr Peter Coroneos, Chief Executive, Internet Industry Association
- Dr John Michael O'Brien, Senior Lecturer in Industrial Relations, University of New South Wales.
These members will join the existing members:
- Ms Karen Curtis, Director of Industry Policy, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
- Mr Graeme Innes AM, Deputy Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission
- Mr Peter Ford, First Assistant Secretary, Information & Security Law Division, Attorney-General's Department
