Question 6:  There's a lot of information on my ID. Is all of it allowed to be collected?

Answer: Not always. Businesses are only allowed to collect the personal information they need to carry out their activities. This rule applies equally to ID - they can only collect information from your ID that is relevant to their stated purpose.

Businesses must consider each item of information on the ID and decide whether it is needed for the purpose. If the business does not need it, then it can't collect it.

This answer is a summary only. For more details, see our information sheet.
