What can a real estate agent* do with the contact details collected about me at an open inspection?
Real estate agents will often contact you after you attend an open inspection. If the agent is covered by the Privacy Act they should have told you (or given you a notice) about why they were collecting your contact details.
The agent can also contact you:
- for another related purpose, if you would reasonably expect them to do this
Example: to tell you about similar available properties.
- to use your contact details for direct marketing.
If the agent does use your information for direct marketing, they must tell you:
- that they will do this when they collect your details
- how you can stop getting more marketing information from them.
