Our teams

Our Office has four key teams that help carry out our functions under the Privacy Act:

• the Privacy Enquiries team answers phone and written enquiries about privacy and the Privacy Act from the public. See Contact us.
• the Compliance team investigates privacy complaints from individuals and carries out audits of government agencies and some private sector organisations. It also carries out investigations of agencies and organisations where no complaint has been made, but where there is a concern that the Privacy Act has been breached.
• the Policy team provides advice and guidance on privacy and the application of the Privacy Act. It also examines and makes submissions on proposed legislation and makes comments on inquiries and proposals that have the potential to impact on privacy.
• the Corporate and Public Affairs team helps us communicate with stakeholders by producing publications, engaging with the media, writing speeches, organising events and developing and managing our website. It plays a key role in raising awareness about privacy rights and responsibilities.
