How do we work?
Since 19 October 2011 the OAIC has been part of the Attorney General's portfolio and liaises with the Information Law and Policy Branch in the Attorney General's Department.
There is also an Information Advisory Committee and a Privacy Advisory Committee which advise the Australian Information Commissioner on the activities and strategic direction of the OAIC.
In relation to our privacy function we work closely with a broad range of stakeholders including peak bodies, government departments and agencies, advocates, interest groups and other privacy authorities, including the members of the Privacy Authorities Australia forum. Internationally, we participate in the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities Forum and the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners. See International and regional involvement for further information.
